LYRICS ANALYSIS 

 

Undercover Martyn is a song where the singer is trying to convince his friend (the titular Martyn, an Irish name like the band) to leave his social isolation (undercover) and discover new things.

 

It can be interpreted as them taking the leap to becoming a band after school rather than going to University; they are nervouse because it is new and exciting.

She spoke words of wisdom"

- A girl that they like, sweet talking them. 

"To the basement people, to the basement
Many surprises await you"
- 'Basment people' could refer to antisocial personas who do no get out much, encouragiong them to leave as 'many surpises' could await them

- Basements are also well known as the place where small bands write and play music. 'Many surprises' could refer the music they create and the success they could recieve. 

"You hid there last time, you know we're gonna find you"
- The people who are social recluses are being encouraged not to hide. 

"Sick in the car seat"
- They could be nervous, playing to a big audience for the first time. 

- Social anxiety 

"Out on the main streets, completing your mission"
- The goal was to become well known and 'the main streets' and share music; 'completing your mission' by doing what you set out to do. 
 

Over all the song does not have an indepth meaning. After looking at the two original videos by the band and seeing they had no lyrical connection, we feel we have the freedom to interpret the song how we want. Our video will have no connection to the lyrical meaning.
